Where Is Instagram Cache Stored?

Instagram caches viewed photos and videos in private app storage on both platforms. Files explicitly saved by the user are copied to public galleries.
Private cache requires root on Android or a jailbreak or backup browser on iOS for direct access. Clearing cache does not delete account posts or saved collections stored on the server.

External cache for viewed reels and videos. Files may use numeric or .clean extensions and can often be played by renaming a copy to .mp4 outside the folder. On Android 11 and later, also check /storage/emulated/0/Android/media/com.instagram.android. Access may need all files access or USB from PC. Clearing cache or reinstalling removes these files.

Public location for photos and videos saved through the app, also visible in Gallery or Google Photos. Internal private data under /data/data/com.instagram.android or /data/user/0/com.instagram.android (cache, files, databases) holds tokens and config and requires root. Uninstall clears the private directory but not the public Pictures copy.

iOS sandbox cache root with subfolders for video and media cache. [App-UUID] is a per install identifier assigned by iOS and changes on reinstall. No direct browsing in the Files app. Use Settings, General, iPhone Storage, Instagram to inspect size. Offload or Delete removes cache. Saved posts that were explicitly downloaded appear in the Photos app under Recents, not in this cache path.

How do I open Instagram cache video files on Android?
Copy the cache file out of the cache folder first, then rename the copy with .mp4 or .jpg and open it in a media viewer. Sort by size and date to find the viewed clip. Do not rename files in place if continued app use is needed.
Where are saved Instagram photos on iPhone?
Photos and videos tapped Save or downloaded go to the Photos app. The internal Library/Caches copy is temporary, purged by the system, and not visible without a backup tool or jailbreak.
