Where Does MusicBee Store Its Library?
MusicBee library file and settings on Windows for installed versus portable versions.
Last updated
MusicBee stores its library database and settings either in AppData (installed) or next to the executable (portable). Music files themselves stay wherever your folders point.
The two modes explain every contradictory guide. The in-app settings-file viewer settles which layout you run.
Where MusicBee stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\MusicBee
Holds MusicBeeLibrary.mbl, settings and plugins for installed builds. Portable builds keep the same files next to the exe instead. Confirm with Help > Support > View Settings File.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move MusicBee to a new computer?
Copy the library .mbl file plus settings and plugins to the same spot on the new machine. Keep music files at identical paths or relink the library afterward.
Portable or installed: which do I have?
Portable keeps everything next to the exe; installed uses AppData. Check Help > Support > View Settings File to print the exact live paths for your install.
