Where Does Xbox Game Bar Save Clips and Screenshots?

Xbox Game Bar clips and screenshots folder on Windows 10 and 11, and how to move it.

Last updated

Xbox Game Bar saves clips as MP4 and screenshots as PNG into a Captures folder inside Videos. Filenames include the app name plus date and time.

The surprise for newcomers is that screenshots land in Videos, not Pictures. Steam's own F12 screenshots go elsewhere entirely, so check which tool took the shot.

Where Windows stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Videos\Captures

Paste %USERPROFILE%\Videos\Captures into the File Explorer address bar. Filenames carry the game name and timestamp. Relocate via folder Properties > Location; existing files do not move on their own.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change where Game Bar saves clips?

Open Game Bar settings (Win+G, gear icon) and change the captures folder, or relocate the Captures folder itself through its Properties > Location tab. New captures follow the new path; old ones stay behind until moved by hand.

My recording finished but the folder is empty. Why?

Check Settings > Gaming > Captures for the current save location, and confirm the app was recognised as a game. Desktop captures go to a Desktop subfolder inside Captures.
