SolidWorks keeps settings primarily in the registry under a SOLIDWORKS key, not in friendly config files. The Copy Settings Wizard exists for exactly this reason.
Raw registry copies across versions misbehave. The wizard export is version-aware and the only supported migration route.

Versioned subkeys hold system options and UI state. Migrate with the Copy Settings Wizard (.sldreg), not regedit exports. Templates and library files live separately wherever configured.
