Where Does CapCut Store Projects and Drafts?
CapCut desktop keeps editable drafts in a User Data folder under a com.lveditor.draft directory. Finished exports are stored separately in the location set in Settings.
Last updated
CapCut saves editable work as drafts, not as MP4 files. Each draft is a folder with JSON metadata and local asset copies.
Exports, cache and downloads use different locations. Deleting a draft folder removes that editable timeline, while clearing cache is normally safe.
Where CapCut stores this, by platform
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\CapCut\User Data\Projects\com.lveditor.draft
Same as %LocalAppData%\CapCut\User Data\Projects\com.lveditor.draft. Each draft is a subfolder with draft_content.json plus assets. Cache is in ..\User Data\Cache. Microsoft Store installs may place data under %LocalAppData%\Packages. Replace <username> with Windows user name.
~/Movies/CapCut/User Data/Projects/com.lveditor.draft
Full form is /Users/<username>/Movies/CapCut/User Data/Projects/com.lveditor.draft. Each draft subfolder contains draft_info.json on macOS plus assets. Cache is in ..\User Data\Cache. Exports use path set in CapCut Settings > Save to.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move CapCut drafts to another computer?
Yes. Copy the specific draft subfolder into the same com.lveditor.draft folder on the target machine, then restart CapCut. Keep draft_content.json (Windows) or draft_info.json (macOS) with its assets subfolder intact.
What is safe to delete to free space?
Cache in User Data\Cache can be cleared from inside CapCut or manually. Do not delete Projects\com.lveditor.draft unless you have backups or exports. Check Settings > Save to for export location before cleanup.
