Where Are Civilization VI Saves Located?

Civilization VI save folder on Windows, macOS and Linux, including the Aspyr port paths and cloud save split.

Last updated

On Windows, Civ VI saves sit under Documents, in My Games, then Sid Meier's Civilization VI, then Saves. Single player, autosaves and hotseat files all live there.

Mac and Linux use Aspyr port paths instead of the My Games tree. Cloud saves add a second copy, so check both spots when a save seems missing.

Where Civilization VI stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Saves

Subfolders per mode: Single, Auto, Multi and so on. Steam Cloud mirrors these; the local folder stays authoritative for manual backup.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Sid Meier's Civilization VI/Saves

Aspyr Mac path. Older installs may use a Containers path instead, so check that variant if Saves is empty. In Finder use Go > Go to Folder.

Linux
~/.local/share/aspyr-media/Sid Meier's Civilization VI/Saves

Aspyr Linux path. Proton runs use the Windows path inside the compatdata prefix instead.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move a Civ VI save to another PC?

Copy the .Civ6Save file out of the matching Saves subfolder into the same spot on the new machine. Turn based saves load cross platform between Windows and Mac.

Why do I have saves in two places?

One set is local, the other is the Steam Cloud copy. The game reads Cloud when enabled in Steam Properties for Civ VI.
