Where Does REAPER Store Settings and Projects?

REAPER resource folder with reaper.ini, keymaps and themes on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Last updated

REAPER keeps settings, keymaps, themes and scripts in one resource folder with reaper.ini at its root. The in app command Show REAPER resource path opens it directly.

Portable installs keep the folder next to the executable instead. Copying the resource folder migrates the whole setup between machines.

Where REAPER stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\REAPER

reaper.ini plus KeyMaps, ColorThemes and Scripts subfolders. Confirm with Options, Show REAPER resource path in explorer.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/REAPER

Same layout. In Finder use Go > Go to Folder. Exact path may vary for very old builds; the in app command stays authoritative.

Linux
~/.config/REAPER

Same layout. Project files (.rpp) live wherever you save them, not here, so back those up separately.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move REAPER to a new computer?

Copy the resource folder to the same spot on the new machine, then install matching plugins. Open one old project to catch missing plugin paths.

Where are REAPER project files by default?

Wherever you save them; REAPER suggests Documents. The resource folder holds settings only, not audio or projects.
