Where Does Akaunting Store Data?
Akaunting reads .env in the install root and persists MySQL plus storage volumes. Back up env, DB dump, and storage.
Last updated
Akaunting follows Laravel conventions on any host. The .env file in the web root carries app key, database credentials, and mail. MySQL holds companies and transactions, while the storage folder keeps uploads and attachments.
Docker installs map all three from the host: env file, database volume, and storage volume. Module extras install into the same tree. Company switching never leaves the database; it only changes the active rows. Keep .env out of backups shared with others, since it holds live credentials. Module settings persist in the database, not the filesystem.
Where Akaunting stores this, by platform
/var/www/akaunting/.env
App key, DB creds, and mail. Created by the web installer or copied from the example. Guard like a password.
/var/www/akaunting/storage
Uploads, invoices, and attachments. Archive with DB dumps for full restores.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Akaunting?
Dump MySQL and archive storage with .env beside both. Companies, invoices, and uploads restore as one set.
Where is the Akaunting config?
Copy .env.example to .env and fill in DB creds, mail, and app key. The installer writes it for you on first web setup.
