Where Does Akregator Store Feeds and Settings?

Akregator keeps settings in akregatorrc and feeds plus archive under .local/share, standard KDE homes.

Last updated

Akregator follows KDE convention with no surprises. One rc file in .config holds the settings, and one data directory in .local/share holds the feed list and the archive of downloaded articles. Back up both and a reinstall feels like nothing happened.

The reliable way to move feeds between machines is still File, Export Feeds to an OPML file, then Import on the other side. Raw file copies work when versions match, but OPML survives version jumps that stored formats do not.

Where Akregator stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/akregatorrc

Main settings file. Quit Akregator (or Kontact) before copying or editing it. Feed contents and the article archive live under ~/.local/share/akregator/. Exact data filenames can shift between KDE versions, so prefer OPML export for migration.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up my Akregator feeds?

Inside Akregator use File, Export Feeds to save an OPML file, and keep it somewhere safe. For a full backup also copy ~/.config/akregatorrc and ~/.local/share/akregator/ with the app closed. The OPML alone is enough to rebuild subscriptions anywhere.

How do I reset Akregator settings?

Quit Akregator completely, rename ~/.config/akregatorrc, and relaunch. Defaults return and feeds can be reimported from OPML. Leave .local/share/akregator/ alone unless you also want the article archive gone.
