Where Are Alan Wake Remastered Save Files Located?

Alan Wake Remastered keeps saves and resolution settings together in Documents under the Remedy folder.

Last updated

Alan Wake Remastered stores saves and settings in Documents\Remedy\AlanWakeRemastered. The folder holds both progress and resolution.xml, which is why one copy preserves the game and its display setup together.

Epic Cloud syncs the tree, and OneDrive can fight it for the same Documents folder. If settings reset on their own, suspect a sync fight before a corrupt file, and delete only resolution.xml to recover. If settings corrupt after a crash, delete resolution.xml and let the game rebuild it rather than wiping the whole folder and losing progress with it.

Where Alan Wake Remastered stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Remedy\AlanWakeRemastered

Saves plus resolution.xml in one folder. Epic Cloud syncs it. If the display breaks, delete only resolution.xml; the game rebuilds it on next launch.

Frequently asked questions

The game launches to a black screen. How do I force windowed mode?

Open resolution.xml in the save folder and set the Window value to 1. Epic's own support gives exactly this fix, and it rescues machines stuck on a bad fullscreen mode.

Do original Alan Wake saves work in the remaster?

No. The remaster uses its own AlanWakeRemastered folder while the 2012 original uses AlanWake. Copying files across never loads; replay or use a remaster-specific save.
