Where Does Amberol Store Data?

Amberol plays files and keeps no library. Queue and prefs follow GNOME conventions, with Flatpak data under its app id folder.

Last updated

Amberol is proud of storing almost nothing. It plays music and keeps no collection database, no playlists, and no editable metadata. Your files stay where they are, and the queue exists only for the session.

What little state exists follows platform convention: dconf settings under the app schema and sandbox data under the Flatpak app id folder. That makes this a short post on purpose. The file manager is the library. Queue refills by drag and drop each session, and MPRIS controls keep playback in system hands.

Where Amberol stores this, by platform

Linux
/home/<username>/.var/app/io.bassi.Amberol

Sandbox data for the recommended Flatpak install. Native packages instead use the standard home config and data folders.

Linux
dconf database: /io/bassi/Amberol

Preferences in dconf under the app schema. Inspect with dconf-editor. Holds little beyond UI state by design.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my Amberol playlists?

You cannot. Amberol deliberately manages no playlists or collections. Queue files per session by drag and drop, and keep your library in the file manager.

How do I move Amberol settings?

Back up the app data folder for your install type. There is no export feature, since the app stores almost nothing beyond prefs and window state.
