Where Are Android Bug Reports Stored?
Android writes bug reports to the Shell app's files folder, reachable over adb without root access.
Last updated
Android's dumpstate service writes bug reports to /data/user_de/0/com.android.shell/files/bugreports. You cannot browse there from the phone's file manager, but adb can. Run adb bugreport <name>.zip and the report is generated, compressed, and pulled to your PC in one step.
On-device capture works too. Developer options offers Take bug report, which assembles the same zip for sharing. Pixel phones also expose recent reports under /bugreports for adb pull. Reports are big and contain logs, so strip secrets before posting them publicly.
Where Android stores this, by platform
/data/user_de/0/com.android.shell/files/bugreports
Device-protected storage path used since Android 7. Older guides cite /data/data/com.android.shell/files/bugreports, which resolves to the same place. Take bug report in Developer options writes here.
Frequently asked questions
What is the fastest way to grab a bug report?
Enable USB debugging, connect, and run adb bugreport report.zip from the folder where you want the file. It takes a minute or two on-device, then downloads automatically when done.
Do I need root to read bug reports?
No, not over adb. The path is gated in file managers, but adb pull and adb bugreport read it with shell permissions. Direct on-device browsing without root shows nothing.
