Where Does Google Antigravity Store Settings?

Antigravity splits settings between VS Code style folders and a .gemini agent directory. Every location, plus the 2.0 rename trap.

Last updated

Antigravity stores things in two places, which is why guides disagree with each other. The editor shell is a VS Code fork, so window settings, keymaps and extensions follow the product name folders below. The agent system keeps Artifacts, Knowledge Items and CLI profiles separately under .gemini in your home directory.

Version 2.0 renamed the product to Antigravity IDE, stranding settings in the old folders for anyone who updated. If your setup vanished overnight, your real files are probably still sitting in the original Antigravity locations. Global MCP servers are configured in ~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json, with per workspace overrides in .agents/mcp_config.json.

Where Antigravity stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\Antigravity

Editor settings and keymaps here, extensions in %USERPROFILE%\.antigravity. Agent data lives separately in %USERPROFILE%\.gemini\antigravity with CLI settings in .gemini\antigravity-cli\settings.json. After the 2.0 rename the app reads Antigravity IDE and .antigravity-ide instead, so copy the old folders across to migrate.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Antigravity

Same product name convention as other VS Code forks. Agent data and CLI profiles mirror Windows under ~/.gemini/antigravity and ~/.gemini/antigravity-cli. Back up the whole .gemini tree to preserve agents, MCP servers and project registrations together.

Linux
~/.config/Antigravity

Same convention on Linux. Project files register under .gemini\config\projects. The IDE only auto accesses project folders plus its data directories unless you allow wider file access.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Antigravity settings.json file?

The CLI global file is ~/.gemini/antigravity-cli/settings.json on Mac and Linux, or the same tail under your user folder on Windows. It only stores values that differ from defaults.

Where did my Antigravity settings go after updating?

The 2.0 update renamed the product folders from Antigravity to Antigravity IDE. Copy Roaming Antigravity into Roaming Antigravity IDE and .antigravity into .antigravity-ide to get settings and extensions back.

Should I look in AppData or in .gemini for Antigravity data?

Both places exist and hold different things. Window settings and keymaps live in the OS standard folders below, while agent data, Artifacts and Knowledge Items live under ~/.gemini/antigravity. Check the standard folder first for lost settings, the .gemini tree for agent state.
