Where Does Bibisco Store Novels and Backups?
Bibisco stores novels in a projects directory you choose at first launch, with per project JSON files plus images, and timestamped .bibisco2 backup archives.
Last updated
Bibisco keeps every novel in a projects directory you pick on first launch, changeable later in settings. Inside sit an internal database folder, one folder per project with its JSON file and images, and a backup area of timestamped archives. Nothing hides in app config folders.
That visibility is the backup strategy. Point the projects directory at a synced folder like Dropbox for automatic off machine copies, since Bibisco only reads local paths. Avoid Desktop and Downloads as homes: unrecognizable folders get deleted, and with them the novels.
Where Bibisco stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\bibisco-projects
Recommended example home for the internal projects database, per project JSON plus images, and .bibisco2 backup archives. Confirm your real folder in Settings under Directory of the projects.
~/Documents/bibisco-projects
Same user chosen layout as Windows. Documents or a cloud synced folder works best. Confirm the real folder in Settings.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move Bibisco to a new computer?
Point the new install at the same projects directory in Settings and existing novels import automatically. Moving machines means copying the whole projects folder, since work splits across JSON, images, and the internal database folder. Keep the folder name recognizable.
How do I restore a Bibisco backup?
Import the timestamped .bibisco2 archive from the backup area through the project import flow. Each archive bundles one project at one moment. Name archives clearly if you keep several around.
