Where Does Biome Store Config and Cache?

Biome biome.json config plus cache inside your project on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Last updated

Biome keeps settings in biome.json or biome.jsonc at the project root. There is no global settings file that matters.

Cache and logs sit in node_modules/.cache when the CLI runs. The project folder is portable. Editor extensions read the same root config, so one file rules every tool.

Where Biome stores this, by platform

Windows
[ProjectDir]\biome.json

Config at root (or biome.jsonc). Delete node_modules\.cache\biome to fix stale lint results. Keep config in git; ignore cache.

macOS
[ProjectDir]/biome.json

Same in-folder layout. Workspace members can extend the root file. Moving between machines needs only the repo plus install.

Linux
[ProjectDir]/biome.json

Same arrangement. CI runs biome check with the same file. Exclude cache from version control. Exact filename may be jsonc by version.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Biome config?

At the project root as biome.json or biome.jsonc. Nested folders inherit it unless they add their own. One root file beats scattered editor settings.

My Biome output looks stale. What do I delete?

Delete the Biome cache under node_modules/.cache and rerun. Config changes apply on the next run without restarts.
