Where Does BizHawk Store Config and Saves?
BizHawk portable folders for config, saves, screenshots and firmware next to the exe.
Last updated
BizHawk is portable by conviction: config, saves, save states, screenshots, movies and firmware all live in folders next to the executable. There is no installer residue in AppData and no registry footprint to chase. The folder is the emulator, settings and library in one.
That design makes the Config folder the only file worth learning by name, with config.ini holding interface and core options. Everything else sorts itself by purpose into sibling folders. Tool assisted players should note the Movies folder too, since input recordings are the actual artifact of a TAS, not the save states.
Where BizHawk stores this, by platform
[BizHawk folder]\Config\config.ini
Key siblings include Config with config.ini, Saves, Screenshots, Movies and Firmware. Copy the entire folder with BizHawk closed for migration. Multi disk games keep their save data per disk image inside Saves.
Frequently asked questions
how do i move bizhawk to a new pc
Copy the whole BizHawk folder with the emulator closed. Config, saves, save states, screenshots and firmware travel together by design, so one folder copy is a complete migration with no registry step.
where do bizhawk bios files go
Drop the correct BIOS files into the Firmware folder beside the exe. BizHawk scans it on launch per core, and missing firmware is the usual reason a core boots to a black screen or refuses to load.
