Where Does BlackArch Store Tools and Mirrors?

BlackArch installs its tools under /usr/share with repo mirrors in /etc/pacman.d/blackarch-mirrorlist, on top of a standard Arch pacman cache.

Last updated

BlackArch is Arch plus a giant tool repository. Its own mirror list lives in /etc/pacman.d/blackarch-mirrorlist beside the Arch one, and that file decides where thousands of security packages download from. Slow installs usually mean a stale mirror here.

Installed tools land in normal Arch locations with shared data under /usr/share. The distro adds no separate tools folder to memorize. Package cache behavior matches Arch exactly, so trim /var/cache/pacman/pkg the same way when disk runs short.

Where BlackArch stores this, by platform

Linux
/etc/pacman.d/blackarch-mirrorlist

BlackArch repo mirrors, separate from Arch mirrors. Edit for faster sources, then sudo pacman -Syy. Back up before package updates that might replace it.

Linux
/usr/share

Shared tool data from BlackArch packages. Standard Arch layout applies to everything else. The pacman cache beside it trims with paccache like any Arch system.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change BlackArch mirrors?

Run sudo pacman -Syy after editing to resync from the new mirror. Test mirrors for speed first since the list spans continents. The blackarch-mirrorlist package can overwrite local edits on update, so keep a copy.

How do I install only some BlackArch tools?

List the blackarch group with pacman -Sg blackarch and install categories like blackarch-webapp or blackarch-wireless instead. The full group pulls thousands of packages and fills small disks fast. Check the website category list before choosing.
