Where Are Borderlands 4 Save Files Located?

Borderlands 4 save and config folders on PC, plus the OneDrive habit that keeps eating players' saves.

Last updated

Borderlands 4 saves on PC live under Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\SaveGames, in a subfolder named after your numeric Steam or Epic ID. Graphics and input settings sit alongside in Saved\Config\Windows (GameUserSettings.ini and Engine.ini).

The Steam and Epic builds share this layout, and both cloud syncs cover it. The usual way saves go missing is OneDrive. Windows 11 often backs up Documents by default, and a sync conflict silently rolls a save back. Pause sync or exclude the folder before copying anything.

Where Borderlands 4 stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\SaveGames\[User-ID]

[User-ID] is your numeric Steam or EOS account ID. Copy the whole numbered folder to back up every character at once. Config lives next door in Saved\Config\Windows. No native Linux or Mac build exists.

Frequently asked questions

I lost progress after a OneDrive sync. What happened?

OneDrive likely restored an older copy of the SaveGames folder over your newer one. Restore the newest local version from OneDrive history, then exclude Documents\My Games from syncing so it cannot happen again.

Do the Steam and Epic versions share the same save folder?

They share the same Documents layout, but each build writes into its own numbered [User-ID] subfolder. Steam Cloud and Epic Cloud each cover their own copy, so progress does not hop between storefronts by itself.
