Where Does CapFrameX Store Captures and Config?

CapFrameX config, captures, screenshots and logs folders for installed and portable mode.

Last updated

CapFrameX splits its data by kind. Settings live as JSON under Roaming AppData, captures and screenshots go to Documents, and logs sit beside the config. Portable mode collapses all of it into a Portable folder next to the executable.

Captures are the valuable part: JSON files with frametime data that analysis and comparison views read. The record list watches the captures directory, so moving files there is enough to adopt them. Run the app as admin for capturing, since kernel level frame hooks require elevation.

Where CapFrameX stores this, by platform

Windows
%APPDATA%\CapFrameX\Configuration

AppSettings.json and overlay configs sit in Configuration, logs in Logs. Captures default to Documents\CapFrameX\Captures and screenshots to Documents\CapFrameX\Screenshots. Portable installs use a Portable folder beside CapFrameX.exe instead of all three.

Frequently asked questions

how do i move capframex captures to a new pc

Copy the Captures folder to the new machine and point the record list at it through the folder breadcrumb. Configuration moves separately by copying the Configuration folder with CapFrameX closed.

how do i reset capframex settings

Close CapFrameX, back up AppSettings.json, and rename it so the app recreates defaults. Overlay problems get the same treatment with the OverlayEntryConfiguration files. Both regenerate on next launch.
