Where Does Clonezilla Save Disk Images?

Clonezilla default image repository folder on live USB runs, plus how to point it at a share instead.

Last updated

Clonezilla saves disk images to a repository folder called /home/partimag on live runs. That path is a RAM disk mountpoint by default, so images vanish on reboot unless you mount real storage there. The menu asks where to mount on every boot.

Each image is a folder with split files, checksums, and Info metadata. Point /home/partimag at a USB drive, local partition, or network share before saving. Copy whole image folders to move them. Single files copied alone will not restore. Verify checksums before wiping source disks.

Where Clonezilla stores this, by platform

Linux
/home/partimag

Default repository mountpoint on Clonezilla live. Mount a USB drive, partition, or share here before imaging. Images are folders with dated names inside it.

Frequently asked questions

can Clonezilla save images to a network share

Choose samba_server or nfs_server in the Clonezilla mount menu and enter the share path. Images then save straight to the network. Local disks stay untouched. This suits labs with no big local drive.

what does a Clonezilla image look like on disk

Look for folders named by date with disk and part image files plus Info files. Each image is a folder, not a single file. Copy the whole folder to move an image between drives.
