Where Does Comet Store Your Profile?

Comet's Chromium profile folder on Windows and Mac plus where passwords really live.

Last updated

Comet is Perplexity's Chromium based browser, so profiles follow Chromium conventions with Comet branding swapped in. History, cookies, cache and the Default profile folder all sit under one User Data root per OS.

Passwords are the exception. Comet delegates them to the OS vault, which is why wiping the profile folder logs you out everywhere but never shows password values to recover.

Where Comet stores this, by platform

Windows
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Comet\User Data

Profiles below it, usually Default. Back up or rename the folder with Comet fully closed to test a clean profile. Passwords stay in Windows Credential Manager regardless.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Comet

Same User Data layout. Back up first if you need bookmarks or imported sessions. Passwords stay in Keychain and survive profile wipes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I fix Comet crashing on launch?

Close it fully, rename the User Data folder as a backup, and relaunch. A clean profile that works points at corrupt profile state rather than a broken install.

Does clearing browsing data delete my passwords?

No. History, cookies and cache clear, but passwords in the OS vault and downloaded files on disk remain. Delete those separately if that is the goal.
