Where Does ConnectBot Store Hosts and Keys?

ConnectBot Android host list and key pairs in app database with export limits.

Last updated

ConnectBot keeps saved hosts, generated key pairs and known host keys in its app database on Android, with no export to file offered. Public keys leave only through Copy to clipboard for pasting into authorized_keys elsewhere.

That closed box shapes every migration. Hosts and keys die with uninstalls and do not transfer between phones except through full device backup restores. Generate keys per device and authorize each phone separately instead of chasing a portable key file that was never offered.

Where ConnectBot stores this, by platform

Android
App-private database (hosts, key pairs and known hosts; no file export)

Manage keys in the in-app key list; copy public halves to clipboard for server setup. Port forwards, color schemes and fonts per host live in the same database.

Frequently asked questions

how do I move ConnectBot hosts to a new phone

There is no export: recreate hosts by hand and generate fresh key pairs per device, authorizing each public key on servers. Full device backup restores carry the database along when available.

how do I get my ConnectBot public key onto a server

Open the key in management, copy the public key to clipboard, then paste it into ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server over any working session. No file export path exists.
