Where Are Control Saves Stored?

Control save paths differ by store version. Steam uses a userdata folder while Epic and GOG use separate local folders.

Last updated

Control does not share a single save path across stores. Steam keeps saves under the Steam userdata folder in subfolder 870780. Epic keeps saves under LocalAppData in a Remedy folder and GOG keeps saves under Documents My Games.

File names also differ between builds so direct copies need renaming. All three builds support cloud sync which can replace edited local files if restore is done while the launcher is running.

Where Control stores this, by platform

Windows
<SteamLibrary>\userdata\<SteamID>\870780\remote

Replace <SteamLibrary> with your Steam install path such as C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam. Replace <SteamID> with your numeric Steam account folder. Subfolder 870780 is the Control app ID. Close Steam before backup or restore and confirm Steam Cloud resolution on next launch.

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Remedy\Control\Default-Epic-User

Replace <username> with your Windows profile name. Some installs use Default-Generic-User instead of Default-Epic-User so check the Remedy Control folder for any Default folder if saves are missing. Saves use .chunk files inside savegame slot folders. Epic Cloud Saves syncs this path.

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Control\Saves

Replace <username> with your Windows profile name. Copy the full Saves folder for backup. GOG Galaxy Cloud Saves syncs this path only when enabled in Galaxy.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move an Epic save to Steam?

Yes with renaming. Epic files such as global.chunk correspond to Steam files such as savegame-slot-00_global. Copy the slot files, apply the Steam naming pattern, and place them in the 870780 remote folder while Steam is closed. Test on a copy first.

Why do saves keep reverting?

Cloud sync is restoring an older copy. Close the game and launcher, restore your local backup, then launch and choose the local files when prompted. Keep cloud enabled after a successful load to upload the corrected progress.
