Where Does CoolerControl Store Config and Profiles?

CoolerControl daemon config plus UI profiles on Linux for fans and pumps.

Last updated

CoolerControl splits config between the system daemon in /etc and per user profiles in home. Curves reference hardware IDs that differ per board.

Copying profiles works between similar rigs only. The daemon must run for anything to apply. Exact filenames may vary by release.

Where CoolerControl stores this, by platform

Linux
/etc/coolercontrol/config.json

Daemon config (devices, backend). UI profiles live in ~/.config/coolercontrol/ beside it. Copy both with the service stopped; fix device IDs after hardware swaps.

Frequently asked questions

Where are CoolerControl fan curves?

In the UI profiles under ~/.config/coolercontrol plus daemon config in /etc. Curves bind to device IDs, so expect remapping on new motherboards.

How do I back up CoolerControl?

Copy /etc/coolercontrol plus ~/.config/coolercontrol with the service stopped. Restore on matching hardware, then verify curves before summer.
