Where Does Demul Store ROMs, BIOS and Saves?

Where the Demul Dreamcast and Naomi emulator keeps ROMs, BIOS, plugins and saves.

Last updated

Demul is portable: everything hangs off the folder you extracted it to. Roms and BIOS zips go in roms, plugin DLLs in plugins, battery saves in nvram, and global choices in demul.ini beside the exe.

CHD based Naomi games need their CHD folders next to the matching zip names. Delete demul.ini while closed for a clean slate when paths get tangled, then reassign plugins and rom paths on next launch.

Where Demul stores this, by platform

Windows
<Demul folder>\roms\

Portable root. Roms and unextracted BIOS zips in roms, DLLs in plugins, saves in nvram, settings in demul.ini. Naomi CHDs sit in folders matching ROM names. Back up the whole folder to migrate.

Frequently asked questions

Where do BIOS files go in Demul?

Point the roms path at your ROM set and drop BIOS zips unextracted in there: dc.zip for Dreamcast, naomi.zip for Naomi, awbios.zip for Atomiswave. Keep BIOS from your matched MAME set rather than random downloads.

Demul cannot find its video or audio plugins. Why?

Create a plugins folder beside demul.exe and copy the matching version DLLs there, then reselect paths in Config, Plugins and Paths. Mixed version plugin sets are the top cause of missing audio or video plugin errors.
