Where Are Detention Save Files Located?
Where Detention keeps saves and its settings JSON on PC, and why the folder is LocalLow and not Local.
Last updated
Detention keeps progress and options together in its company folder under LocalLow on Windows. A settings JSON sits beside the saves rather than in a separate config tree. Registry keys hold the remaining options on the same machine.
Newcomers usually look under Local instead of LocalLow and conclude the folder is missing. The company name omits the space, which breaks a second round of guesses. Linux follows the unity3d config tree with the same folder names inside. Enable hidden items in Explorer first, since AppData stays invisible by default.
Where Detention stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\RedCandleGames\Detention
Holds saves plus the UserGameSetting JSON in one folder. Registry keys beside it hold extra options. Note LocalLow, not Local, and no space in RedCandleGames.
~/.config/unity3d/RedCandleGames/Detention
Same saves and settings under the unity3d config home. Copy the Detention folder between OS paths for cross platform moves.
Frequently asked questions
I cannot find the Detention save folder. What am I missing?
Open File Explorer options and enable hidden items first, since AppData stays hidden by default. Paste the LocalLow RedCandleGames path into the address bar. The Saves equivalent plus the settings JSON appear together in that folder.
Are Detention saves and settings in one place?
Saves and the UserGameSetting file share the Detention folder, with extra options in the registry beside them. Back up the whole folder for a complete copy. Deleting the JSON alone resets options while leaving progress intact.
