Where Does Docspell Store Documents and Data?
Where Docspell keeps its database, file store, Solr index and configs.
Last updated
Docspell centers on its SQL database (Postgres, MariaDB or embedded H2) with binaries either inside it or on a filesystem store both nodes mount. Solr holds the optional fulltext index beside them.
Docker layouts map data/postgres, data/solr and data/files from the compose tree. Config arrives via docspell.conf or DOCSPELL env vars. The file backend choice (database, filesystem, S3) decides which volumes matter for backup.
Where Docspell stores this, by platform
<docspell data>/files/
Compose tree with postgres, solr and files children. Binaries live in the database by default or under the filesystem store when enabled. Back up the database plus files dir together.
Frequently asked questions
What must I back up for Docspell?
Back up the database plus the file store directory when filesystem storage is on. Default installs keep binaries inside the database itself, so database dumps alone can suffice there.
Do joex and restserver share one file store?
All nodes must share the identical file backend config with read and write access. The docs stress mismatched joex and restserver file settings as a classic multi node failure.
