Where Are DreadOut Save Files Located?
DreadOut splits saves between an install cloud folder and Unity LocalLow, with registry settings and Steam plus GOG clouds.
Last updated
DreadOut stores progress in two places at once. The install folder holds a cloud directory with per user save data. A Unity LocalLow folder holds screen settings plus a registry key for the rest.
That split means partial backups fail silently. Copying only the install folder loses display settings, and copying only LocalLow loses the run. Take both plus the registry export for a complete move. Steam Cloud mirrors saves and settings when enabled.
Where DreadOut stores this, by platform
<DreadOutInstall>\cloud\<user-id>
Run progress in per user folders under the install cloud tree. Find the install folder first, then open cloud inside it. Copy with the game closed.
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Digital Happiness\dreadout\<user-id>\screen.cfg
Screen settings duplicate of the registry toggles. The user ID level varies, so open the dreadout folder and match it. Copy alongside the cloud folder.
~/.config/unity3d/Digital Happiness/dreadout/
Linux prefs under the XDG unity3d tree. Mirrors the Windows layout with forward slashes.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move DreadOut saves to a new PC?
Copy both the install cloud folder and the LocalLow tree to the new machine with the game closed. Progress rides in the cloud folder while screen settings ride in LocalLow. The registry key carries the rest.
Where are DreadOut settings in the registry?
Open regedit and browse to the Digital Happiness key, or change options in game and let it write them. Screen settings also duplicate into screen.cfg in LocalLow, so either path reaches the same toggles.
Where are DreadOut saves on Linux?
Follow the XDG unity3d tree on Linux. The layout mirrors Windows with forward slashes. Steam Cloud syncs the same content regardless of OS.
