Where Does ExamDiff Pro Store Settings?
ExamDiff Pro reads options from the Windows registry by default, with sessions and command line overrides on top.
Last updated
ExamDiff Pro keeps its options in the registry under a PrestoSoft key. That covers layouts, toolbars, compare options, and recent sessions in one place.
The official migration path is exporting that single key and importing it on the new machine. It carries everything, including visual elements and saved sessions. Portable builds are the exception. They keep settings beside the program instead of in the registry.
Where ExamDiff Pro stores this, by platform
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PrestoSoft\ExamDiff Pro
All options, layouts, toolbars, and sessions. Export this key in regedit to migrate everything at once. Session files passed on the command line and explicit flags override these stored options for that run only.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move ExamDiff Pro settings to a new PC?
Export HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PrestoSoft\ExamDiff Pro in regedit on the old machine and import the .reg file on the new one. That carries layouts, toolbars, options, and sessions together. Reinstall any plug-ins separately.
ExamDiff Pro ignores my saved options. Why?
Options passed on the command line or through a session file override the registry for that run. Check shortcuts and scripts for flags before assuming the stored options are corrupt. The vendor confirms the registry is the default source.
