Where Does Flarum Store Uploads and Config?
Flarum storage folder and site config paths for Apache and Nginx installs on Linux web server hosts.
Last updated
Flarum keeps runtime files in a storage folder inside the web root. Uploads sit in storage/uploads with avatars and attachments. Cache, logs, and sessions sit beside them under storage/cache and storage/logs. That folder is the part that grows.
Site config lives in config.php at the web root with database passwords and URL settings. Back up storage/uploads, the config file, and a database dump. The cache folders can be skipped since Flarum recreates them on demand. Uploads and config cannot. Keep config private.
Where Flarum stores this, by platform
/var/www/flarum/storage/uploads
Uploads root with avatars and attachments. Keep web user ownership and exclude cache from backups. Copy uploads with the database for migration.
/var/www/flarum/config.php
Database credentials and site URL for the install. Restrict read access to the web user. Keep a copy off the server with database dumps.
Frequently asked questions
what do i back up for a Flarum move
Copy the storage folder with config.php and a MySQL dump. Storage holds uploads, cache, and logs. The config holds database passwords. Cache rebuilds, uploads do not.
can i clear the Flarum cache safely
Delete files under storage/cache with Flarum running. That folder holds compiled views and routes. Keep storage/uploads and config.php untouched. Flarum rebuilds cache on the next request.
