Where Does Flycut Store History and Settings?

Flycut keeps history and prefs in standard macOS storage. Save clippings to Desktop files and favorites live in a separate store.

Last updated

Flycut is a minimal clipboard stack for developers. Copies accumulate in history, recalled with Shift Command V. A separate favorites store holds pinned clippings apart from the main rotation.

Settings follow macOS convention in the preferences folder, with the App Store build sandboxed in its container. One known quirk: preferences only persist if saving is enabled, so a restart can otherwise wipe them. Export favorites before major changes. The iOS companion keeps its own separate history. Grant Accessibility access after installs or the tracker stays silent.

Where Flycut stores this, by platform

macOS
/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.generalarcade.flycut.plist

Preferences for the direct download build. The App Store build uses its container instead. Enable save after each clip to survive restarts.

macOS
/Users/<username>/Desktop/Clipping <date>.txt

Saved clippings land here as dated text files when you save from the bezel. The favorites store stays inside the app.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save a clipping to a file?

Press the clipping hotkey then the save key in the bezel. The clipping lands on the Desktop as a dated text file, the same way screenshots save.

Flycut forgot my settings after restart. Why?

Enable save after each clip in preferences. Flycut otherwise holds history in memory and a restart can lose both prefs and clips.
