Where Does Fraps Save Movies and Screenshots?

Fraps defaults captures to its install folder. The Movies and Screenshots tabs plus the INI behind them.

Last updated

Fraps saves movies and screenshots into its install folder by default, usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Fraps. That fills the system drive fast since captures are near raw AVIs. The Movies and Screenshots tabs each show the live folder with Change and View buttons.

Point both tabs at a roomy disk before any long session. The same paths persist in fraps.ini as Folder keys and in the registry under HKCU\Software\Beepa\Fraps. Benchmark logs (FRAPSLOG.TXT) follow the movies folder setting.

Where Fraps stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\Fraps

Default for movies, screenshots, and logs until changed. Move via the Change button per tab; the View button opens the live folder. fraps.ini Folder keys mirror the GUI choice.

Frequently asked questions

how do i change the fraps save folder

Open Fraps, pick the Movies or Screenshots tab, and press Change next to the folder field. Each tab has its own path. Move old captures by hand; the setting only affects new files.

why are fraps avis so huge

They are barely compressed by design for real time capture. Convert finished clips in an editor to a delivery codec. Record at half size or lower fps to shrink the raw files at the cost of fidelity.
