Where Are God of War Ragnarok Save Files Located?
God of War Ragnarok PC saves live in Saved Games under a SteamID subfolder. Windows and Linux paths, plus the accented o gotcha.
Last updated
Sony's PC ports use the Saved Games folder at the root of your user profile instead of Documents or AppData. Ragnarok follows the 2018 game exactly: a God of War Ragnarök folder containing one numeric subfolder per Steam account, with GOWRSAVE files and small sidecar .dat files inside. Steam Cloud syncs the whole thing, and the settings.ini beside the saves holds your graphics options.
The ö in Ragnarök trips up hand-typed paths and some backup scripts, so copy the path out of Explorer rather than typing it. The 2018 game keeps a separate God of War folder next to it, and the two never share files. On Linux the same layout exists inside the Proton prefix for app ID 2322010.
Where God of War Ragnarok stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\God of War Ragnarök\[SteamID]
%USERPROFILE% usually expands to C:\Users\[YourName]. [SteamID] is your numeric Steam account ID. settings.ini sits in the same folder and holds graphics options, so include it in backups. Steam Cloud syncs this folder automatically.
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2322010/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/God of War Ragnarök/[SteamID]
The Windows layout mirrored inside the Proton prefix, where 2322010 is Ragnarok's Steam app ID. Some installs use ~/.steam/steam instead of ~/.local/share/Steam, and SteamOS uses the same layout under /home/deck. Keep the ö in Ragnarök when browsing; renaming it breaks loading.
Frequently asked questions
what are gowrsave files in god of war ragnarok
GOWRSAVE followed by a number, like GOWRSAVE0, plus small .dat sidecar files. The files sit directly inside your numeric SteamID folder. There is no slot naming to decode, so back up the whole numbered folder rather than picking files.
why does my typed ragnarok save path not work
Almost certainly the o with diaeresis in Ragnarok. The folder on disk is spelled with ö, and a hand-typed path with a plain o points nowhere. Copy the path out of Explorer's address bar instead of typing it, or paste %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games and browse from there.
where is the ragnarok save folder on steam deck
In Desktop mode, open ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2322010/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Saved Games/God of War Ragnarök. The numeric folder inside holds the same GOWRSAVE files as a Windows install, and Steam Cloud keeps the two in sync.
