Where Are Gone Home Save Files Located?
Where Gone Home keeps saves on Windows, Mac and Linux, and why the Mac path hides in Caches instead.
Last updated
Gone Home follows old Unity conventions that differ per OS. Windows uses the LocalLow company tree with a Saves subfolder. Linux uses the unity3d config tree. Mac breaks the pattern by writing into Caches.
That Mac path surprises everyone who checks Application Support first. The bundle style folder name with a unity prefix marks it as engine managed storage. Copy the platform folder whole for backup since progress and settings travel together. Journal notes and object states share the same saves, so partial copies load wrong.
Where Gone Home stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\The Fullbright Company\Gone Home\Saves
Holds the Saves subfolder with progress. Classic Unity LocalLow layout under the company name. Copy the Gone Home parent for full backup.
~/Library/Caches/unity.The Fullbright Company.Gone Home
Unusual Unity Caches location rather than Application Support. Use Go to Folder in Finder to reach it. Holds the same progress the Windows Saves folder covers.
~/.config/unity3d/The Fullbright Company/Gone Home
Fixed unity3d config path that ignores custom XDG homes. Holds progress and settings together. Copy the Gone Home folder for backup.
Frequently asked questions
I cannot find my Gone Home Mac save. Where is it?
Open Finder, use Go to Folder, and paste the Caches path for the Fullbright bundle. The Library folder stays hidden by default, which is why browsing never finds it. The Saves equivalent lives inside that Caches tree.
My Linux copy runs but keys do nothing. Is the save broken?
Launch the Linux binary with the C locale override to fix input while leaving saves untouched. Progress stays in the unity3d config tree regardless of locale. The bug affects movement keys, not file writes.
