Where Does GPT4All Store Downloaded Models?
GPT4All's local model folder on Windows and how to move it when C: fills up.
Last updated
GPT4All downloads .gguf models to a nomic.ai folder in local AppData on Windows. Each model runs 3 to 8 GB, so the folder grows fast once you try a few chat models side by side.
There is no per model picker path to memorize. Everything the app downloads lands in the same GPT4All directory, and the Models panel simply lists what it finds there.
Where GPT4All stores this, by platform
C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\nomic.ai\GPT4All
Models are .gguf files directly inside or below this folder. Short on C: space, move the folder to another drive and symlink it back, or place models beside the app binary so the picker still finds them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the GPT4All model folder?
The app has no dedicated move button in older builds. The reliable workaround is a directory symlink from the default nomic.ai path to a folder on a larger drive, then restart.
Do I need to redownload models after reinstalling?
No, if you kept the folder. Reinstall, let it recreate the path once, close it, then copy your saved .gguf files back before launching again.
