Where Are Grounded Save Files?

Grounded Steam saves live under Saved Games Grounded in your user profile. The Microsoft Store and Game Pass version uses an Xbox managed package folder instead.

Last updated

On Steam for Windows, saves are in Saved Games Grounded under your user profile. Each world sits in a numeric user folder with save data and a screenshot for identification.

The Store version stores data under AppData Local Packages for the Maine package. Those files are Xbox managed and should be moved with the in game Shared Worlds and import functions where possible.

Where Grounded stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Grounded

<username> is your Windows account name. Steam path confirmed by Obsidian support. Back up the full Grounded folder to keep all profiles. Each numeric subfolder is one profile and contains world saves.

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Maine_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs\<ID1>\<ID2>

<username> is your Windows account name. <ID1> and <ID2> are Xbox generated IDs that differ per install. Do not rename inner files. Use Continue Game export or in game import for transfers.

Frequently asked questions

Can I copy a Steam save to Game Pass?

Yes with the in game tools. Export or share the Steam world, then use Import Save in the Store build and pick the extracted folder. Direct file paste into the wgs tree is fragile and needs exact filenames.

Why can I not see Store saves in Explorer?

The Maine package path is hidden and Xbox managed, so files may not show without hidden items enabled. Use Saved Games Grounded for Steam access, and use the in game menu for Store import and export.
