Where Does Halftone Store Presets on Linux?
Where GNOME Halftone keeps dithering presets and settings on Linux for reset and full backup.
Last updated
Halftone keeps almost everything in dconf: dithering presets, palette choices and window state under its app branch. Source images stay in your Pictures folders with exports beside them always.
Dump the branch for migration; load it back with the app closed before relaunching. Clearing presets never touches images, only editor options. Exports save as new files, so originals survive every experiment you run.

Frequently asked questions
How do I back up Halftone presets?
Copy the dconf branch with dconf dump before resetting. Presets travel in settings while images stay where they are. Restoring means loading the file back with the app closed.
How do I reset Halftone to defaults?
Quit Halftone and reset its dconf branch, then relaunch. Source images stay in Pictures; only dithering options reset. The app recreates defaults on next start.
