Where Does HestiaCP Store Data and Config?

HestiaCP centers on /usr/local/hestia (packages, templates, per-user data) with server config in /etc/hestiacp/.

Last updated

HestiaCP roots everything at /usr/local/hestia: user data, packages, web templates, keys and the CLI that manages them ($HESTIA). Server level config sits beside it in /etc/hestiacp/hestia.conf.

Web roots live separately under /home per user, so the panel tree is settings while homes are content. Back up both trees (plus any database dumps) and a rebuild restores service, not just the panel.

Where HestiaCP stores this, by platform

Linux
/usr/local/hestia/

Packages, templates, per-user data, API keys. Web roots under /home stay outside this tree; server config in /etc/hestiacp/hestia.conf.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move hosting packages between servers?

Copy /usr/local/hestia/data/packages/*.pkg to the new server. Package definitions travel as files, so plan tiers migrate without re-creating them in the UI.

Can I customize nginx/apache templates safely?

Copy (never edit in place) default templates from /usr/local/hestia/data/templates/ first. Updates overwrite stock templates, wiping direct edits without warning.
