Where Does HWMonitor Save Its Settings and Logs?
HWMonitor has no AppData folder. Its small ini files sit next to the program, which separates installed and portable copies.

HWMonitor is deliberately simple, and its file layout matches. The program does not create a folder in AppData or Documents, and it writes no sprawling profile the way fancier monitoring suites do. Any settings it keeps, such as window state and preferences, live in small ini files beside the executable itself. That is why a portable copy on a USB stick behaves exactly like the installed one: the program folder is the whole footprint.
The practical consequence shows up during upgrades and uninstalls. The uninstaller often leaves the CPUID program folder behind, complete with your ini files, because it is treated as user data rather than program data. Deleting that folder manually is safe. HWMonitor rebuilds its settings with defaults on the next launch, and your sensor readings were never stored there in the first place.
Where HWMonitor stores this, by platform
C:\Program Files\CPUID\HWMonitor
Default install location on 64-bit Windows, with the ini files sitting beside HWMonitor.exe. On 32-bit systems the folder lands under Program Files (x86) instead. Portable copies store their files wherever you unzipped the program.
Frequently asked questions
Where does HWMonitor store its settings?
In small ini files next to the executable, not in AppData. That is why moving the program folder moves its settings with it. If you run a portable copy from a USB stick, that stick holds everything the program knows.
Why is there still a CPUID folder after I uninstalled HWMonitor?
The uninstaller removes the program files but often leaves the folder and any ini files behind, since they count as user data. Deleting the leftover folder by hand is safe and has no downside, and it reclaims a few megabytes.
Does HWMonitor keep a history of temperatures and voltages?
No. The free version shows live readings only and stores no history. Logging to a file is a feature of HWMonitor Pro, where you choose the log folder yourself, and those log files sit wherever you point them.
