Where Does IINA Store Settings and Resume Data?

IINA splits Mac playback state between a preferences plist and an Application Support folder with history and resume data.

Last updated

IINA follows Apple conventions to the letter. Interface settings live in a preferences plist managed by UserDefaults. History, custom key bindings, plugins, and per file resume data live in Application Support under the app's reverse domain.

Resume state hashes full media paths including volume identifiers, which quietly binds positions to one machine. The input_conf file holds hand written bindings worth version controlling, and an opt in XDG mode exists for dotfiles devotees.

Where IINA stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Preferences/com.colliderli.iina.plist

Main settings plist managed by the system. Delete with IINA quit to reset preferences without touching history or bindings.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/com.colliderli.iina/

history.plist, input_conf bindings, plugins, and watch_later resume files live here. Resume hashes are machine specific and often fail to transfer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate to a new Mac?

Copy both the plist and the Application Support folder. Resume files hash machine specific media identifiers though, so positions often refuse to transfer. Settings and bindings move cleanly; watch positions may not.

Can I use my mpv.conf with IINA?

Enable the advanced Use config directory option pointing at an mpv.conf, commonly ~/.config/mpv. That redirects only the mpv engine side while IINA's own bindings and plugins stay in Application Support.
