Where Does InfluxDB Store Data?

InfluxDB v2 splits engine, bolt, and sqlite paths by install type. Package vs binary vs Docker layouts.

Last updated

InfluxDB v2 keeps time series in an engine dir (data plus wal), metadata in influxd.bolt, notebooks in influxd.sqlite, and CLI configs in configs. Package installs root all of it at /var/lib/influxdb with config at /etc/influxdb/config.toml.

Binary, macOS, and Windows installs instead use a home rooted tree: ~/.influxdbv2 or %USERPROFILE%\.influxdbv2 with the same inner names. Docker Hub images use /var/lib/influxdb2. Each path has a config option (engine-path, bolt-path, sqlite-path), so the file system layout page beats any remembered default.

Where InfluxDB stores this, by platform

Linux
/var/lib/influxdb

Package layout: engine/, influxd.bolt, influxd.sqlite, configs inside, plus /etc/influxdb/config.toml. Standalone binaries use ~/.influxdbv2 instead. Docker Hub uses /var/lib/influxdb2.

Frequently asked questions

how do i back up influxdb v2 data

Prefer influx backup for consistent snapshots. File copies demand a stopped daemon with the engine, bolt, and sqlite files moving as a set; live copies corrupt.

where is the influxdb config file

Package installs read /etc/influxdb/config.toml. Binary installs often run flag configured with no file at all. Check the process flags before assuming a file exists.
