Where Does Keeper Password Manager Store Data on Your PC?
Keeper is zero-knowledge: your vault stays encrypted in the cloud. Local folders hold encrypted caches, keys and app config.

Keeper works differently from most apps on this site. Your vault, meaning every password, passkey and file inside it, is encrypted with your master password before it ever leaves the device, and the only usable copy lives in Keeper's cloud. There is no local save file that opens your vault, and uninstalling gains you nothing except a download later. What the desktop app keeps on disk is a working layer: encrypted caches for offline access, device keys, and a small config file.
The folder depends on how you installed Keeper on Windows. Store and MSIX installs sandbox their data under the Packages path, while the direct MSI installer writes to a plain folder under roaming AppData. On macOS and Linux the pattern is the standard one for the platform. In every case the contents are encrypted data or configuration, never plain-text secrets. Backing up the app means remembering your master password, not copying files.
Where Keeper Security stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\KeeperSecurityInc.KeeperPasswordManager_<suffix>\AppData\Keeper Password Manager
MSIX and Microsoft Store installs keep config.json and encrypted data here. The direct MSI installer uses %APPDATA%\Keeper Password Manager\IndexedDB instead. Nothing in either folder is readable without your master password.
~/Library/Application Support/Keeper Password Manager
Holds config.json and encrypted local cache. Survives reinstalls and uninstalls leave it untouched, though it also has nothing you need to preserve: the vault itself stays encrypted in the cloud.
~/.config/Keeper Password Manager
The XDG-style config folder, with config.json alongside encrypted data files. As on every platform, the folder is a working cache, and your master password plus the Keeper cloud are what protect the vault.
Frequently asked questions
Can I recover my vault from these local files without Keeper's servers?
No. Keeper is zero-knowledge, so local files are encrypted with keys derived from your master password, and the vault data lives server-side. Recovery needs both the cloud copy and your master password. Keep an emergency kit or recovery phrase stored safely.
Does uninstalling Keeper delete my passwords?
No. The vault exists in Keeper's cloud, and a reinstall plus sign-in brings everything back. The local folders only hold caches and configuration, so removing them loses you a download, not a single password.
What is config.json in the Keeper folder?
It stores app-level settings such as the server region, update channel and device preferences. It contains no vault entries, and editing it by hand is unsupported. If the app misbehaves, deleting the file resets those preferences safely.
