Where Are Kernel Hearts Save Files Located?
Kernel Hearts saves under a folder called MahouPrototype in LocalAppData, not its own name. Here is the path and why it differs.
Last updated
Kernel Hearts is built in Unreal Engine, and its user data folder does not carry the game's name. Look for %LOCALAPPDATA%\MahouPrototype\Saved and you will find SaveGames and Config inside. MahouPrototype is the project's internal name, left over from development, and it is the reason a search for Kernel Hearts in AppData comes up empty.
Steam Cloud and Xbox Cloud are both listed for the game (Steam App ID 2902170), so a signed-in account usually restores progress on its own. Manual copies still matter before major updates: the Saved folder contains both the saves and the settings, so one folder copy covers everything.
Where Kernel Hearts stores this, by platform
%LOCALAPPDATA%\MahouPrototype\Saved\SaveGames
Game progress lives here. The parent folder says MahouPrototype, not Kernel Hearts, so search for that name when hunting manually.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\MahouPrototype\Saved\Config\Windows
Graphics, audio and input settings in Unreal's usual layout. Separate from the saves but inside the same Saved tree, so one copy backs up both.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I find a Kernel Hearts folder in AppData?
The folder uses the internal project name MahouPrototype. Look for that name in LocalAppData and the whole save tree, saves and settings included, is right there.
Does Kernel Hearts have cloud saves?
Yes. Steam Cloud covers the Steam build and Xbox Cloud is listed for the Microsoft Store build. Local backups are still the only copy you control directly.
