Where Does KGet Store Transfers and Settings?

Where KGet keeps transfer lists, settings and default folders on Linux, and how to migrate them.

Last updated

KGet follows KDE conventions: settings in a kgetrc config file under XDG config, transfer lists and history under local share. Finished files land in a download folder you choose, defaulting under home.

The split means two copies for a full move. Config alone restores options without the queue; local share restores the queue without finished files. Stop transfers before copying so resume state writes cleanly.

Where KGet stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/kgetrc

Settings in kgetrc under XDG config, queue and history under local share. Respects custom XDG paths. Stop transfers before copying resume state.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move KGet to a new Linux install?

Close KGet and copy kgetrc plus the local share transfer data. Settings travel in the config file, queue and history in local share. Downloads themselves stay where they finished, so move that folder too.

Where does KGet save files by default?

Open Settings, Folders, and read the download path. The default points under home Downloads, but the field always shows the live folder. Per group folders override it for sorted downloads.
