Where Does KVIrc Store Config and Logs?
KVIrc config starts from a small pointer file in your home directory that names the real settings folder.

KVIrc does not hardcode its settings path. On first launch it asks where the local directory should live, then writes that choice into a small pointer file in your home directory. Every later launch reads the pointer first.
That indirection confuses people hunting for config files, because the actual settings, scripts, themes and logs all sit in the chosen local directory instead. Open the pointer file in a text editor and its first non empty line names the real folder.
Where KVIrc stores this, by platform
~/.kvirc4.rc
Modern builds use .kvirc4.rc while older 3.x builds used .kvirc.rc. The first non empty line inside is the path to the local directory holding config, scripts and the log folder.
%APPDATA%\KVIrc
Default installs use a KVIrc folder under Roaming. Portable installs instead keep a config folder next to the executable, so check beside kvirc.exe if Roaming has nothing. The -c command line switch overrides both.
Frequently asked questions
where are my kvirc chat logs
Inside the local directory, in the log subfolder. Each network and channel gets its own files there, so the local directory backup already includes your history.
can i move my kvirc settings to another folder
Run kvirc with the -c switch pointing at a config file, or the -n switch to create one somewhere new. That is also how portable setups on a USB stick keep everything self contained.
