Where Does LANDrop Save Received Files?

LANDrop drops received files into Downloads by default, changeable in settings on every platform.

Last updated

LANDrop has almost no local state of its own. It listens on the local network, and every file you accept lands in the receive folder, which defaults to Downloads on desktop and mobile alike.

That simplicity is the whole answer. There is no library, database, or history worth backing up. If transfers vanish, check the receive folder setting first, then the disk space on the receiving side. Both explain nearly every lost file report.

Where LANDrop stores this, by platform

Windows
Downloads folder (default receive location)

Default receive folder on desktop. Change it in settings; the app keeps no library of its own, so received files are the only artifacts.

macOS
Downloads folder (default receive location)

Same default on Mac. Point it at an external drive in settings if phone dumps threaten to fill the disk.

Linux
~/Downloads (default receive location)

Same default on Linux. No daemon state to back up; the receive folder holds everything the app ever produced.

Android
Downloads (default receive location)

Received files land in shared storage per the app's receive setting. No chat-style history exists, so the files are the archive.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change where LANDrop saves files?

Open settings and pick a new receive folder. The change applies to future transfers; already received files stay where they landed.
