Where Does Lapce Store Settings?

Lapce settings file on desktop, with the caveat that paths still drift between releases.

Last updated

Lapce aims at settings.toml in the usual per OS spot: ~/.config/lapce on Linux, %APPDATA%\Lapce on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/Lapce on Mac. The file may not exist until first launch or until you touch the gear icon; defaults ship inside the app.

Read that as current intent, not contract. Lapce is young and the Floem rewrite already moved keys and storage once, so confirm on your install if the file is missing. Terminal profiles in particular remain experimental. The Linux path is the best verified of the three; Mac and Windows follow toolkit convention and may vary by version.

Where Lapce stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/lapce/settings.toml

Main TOML settings ($XDG_CONFIG_HOME respected). Best verified of the three paths. Plugins and data live nearby; layout may still shift between releases.

Windows
%APPDATA%\Lapce\settings.toml

Expected location following platform convention (Local vs Roaming may vary). Unverified in official docs, so confirm on your install. A portable feature flag exists in source.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/Lapce/settings.toml

Expected location following platform convention; exact casing may vary. Unverified in official docs, so check with Finder or mdfind if it is missing.

Frequently asked questions

There is no settings.toml after installing Lapce. Is that normal?

Yes. The file appears after first launch or after opening settings via the gear icon. Defaults live inside the app until then, documented in the repo defaults/settings.toml.

My Lapce settings broke after updating. What happened?

Probably rewrite drift: the Floem era changed keys and storage between release lines. Recheck your settings against the current schema rather than restoring an old file blindly.
