Where Does LaserGRBL Store Settings and Buttons?
Where LaserGRBL keeps custom buttons and settings on Windows, and why machine settings need a separate export.
Last updated
LaserGRBL keeps PC side state in one Roaming folder. Custom buttons live there as a binary file. Stock button sets ship separately in the install folder.
Machine settings are the trap. Dollar sign parameters live on the laser controller itself. Reinstalling Windows changes nothing on the board, yet people expect a PC backup to restore them. Export that table from inside the app. A PC reinstall never touches the board, so a fresh LaserGRBL still reads the same machine values once you reconnect over the right COM port.

PC side folder with CustomButtons.bin for your macros. Machine dollar parameters live on the controller and must be exported through Grbl Configuration. Stock sets ship as .zbn in the install folder.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up LaserGRBL custom buttons?
With LaserGRBL closed, copy CustomButtons.bin from the Roaming LaserGRBL folder. The file menu export to .zbn works too and is easier to share. Keep the app closed during a manual copy or the file may be locked.
I reinstalled and my GRBL machine config is gone. Where was it?
Machine values live in the controller EEPROM, not on your PC. Read them with Grbl Configuration (the $$ readout), then save or screenshot that table. Reconnecting a new board means writing those values back, not copying a PC file.
