Where Does LaunchBar Store Actions and Snippets?

LaunchBar preferences, custom actions and snippets folders on Mac, which need no import step.

Last updated

LaunchBar centers on ~/Library/Application Support/LaunchBar: Configuration.plist and CustomShortcuts.plist for settings, an Actions folder for custom AppleScript and shell actions, a Snippets folder where each .txt file is one snippet.

Dropped files need no import: both folders auto index, so saving an action or snippet there makes it live. Main prefs sit one level out in ~/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LaunchBar.plist. Full uninstall means deleting the plist, the support folder and the Caches entry together.

Where LaunchBar stores this, by platform

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/LaunchBar/

Configuration.plist, CustomShortcuts.plist, Actions/ (custom scripts, auto indexed) and Snippets/ (one .txt per snippet). Main prefs in ~/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LaunchBar.plist; cache in ~/Library/Caches/at.obdev.LaunchBar. Mac only.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a custom action to LaunchBar?

Save the script into ~/Library/Application Support/LaunchBar/Actions. It indexes automatically with no import step; same for .txt files dropped into Snippets/.

How do I fully uninstall LaunchBar?

Delete ~/Library/Preferences/at.obdev.LaunchBar.plist, the ~/Library/Application Support/LaunchBar folder and ~/Library/Caches/at.obdev.LaunchBar, then remove the app bundle. Back up Actions and Snippets first.
