Where Is the Lazydocker Config File?

Lazydocker config.yml path on Linux, Mac and Windows, and the in-app shortcut that opens it directly.

Last updated

Lazydocker keeps its settings in a single config.yml file, and the directory follows each operating system's convention. Linux uses the XDG config home, macOS uses Application Support under the jesseduffield organization folder, and Windows uses Roaming AppData.

You rarely need the raw path. Pressing o in the status panel opens the file in your editor on every platform, and changes apply on restart. The file may not exist until you customize something, since lazydocker runs happily on built in defaults.

Where Lazydocker stores this, by platform

Linux
~/.config/lazydocker/config.yml

Respects $XDG_CONFIG_HOME when set. Docker Desktop users on Windows run the Linux path instead, inside their WSL distro's home directory rather than Windows AppData.

macOS
~/Library/Application Support/jesseduffield/lazydocker/config.yml

Note the jesseduffield organization folder in the middle. Home Manager on macOS writes $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/lazydocker/config.yml instead when XDG support is enabled.

Windows
%APPDATA%\lazydocker\config.yml

If this file does not exist on your machine, your install may resolve the folder differently. Press o inside lazydocker to open whatever path your build actually uses.

Frequently asked questions

how do i open the lazydocker config file

Focus the status panel with the left arrow, then press o. Lazydocker opens config.yml in your editor regardless of platform, which beats hunting through hidden folders.

where are the default lazydocker settings documented

Run lazydocker --config to print the compiled defaults. That output shows every key with its default value, and the project docs carry the full commented reference.
